About this property

Welcome to Cringletie Estate

Cringletie Estate is a romantic country hotel and restaurant situated on 28 scenic acres just off the A703 road, about three miles from Peebles town centre. Housed in an imposing brick building dating back to 1861, it offers elegant rooms, suites, and a cottage surrounded by peaceful countryside views. Guests can enjoy a quiet and relaxed atmosphere complemented by warm, attentive service, as noted by several reviewers who highlight the staff’s friendliness and the owners’ personal hospitality.

Although it lacks a pool, air conditioning, and a fitness center, the onsite dining options receive particular praise for creativity and quality, with dishes described as varied and elegantly presented. Room service is also available for added convenience.

Located within easy reach of notable attractions such as Rosslyn Chapel, Glentress Forest, and Traquair House, the hotel is well placed for visitors interested in exploring the local area. Edinburgh Airport is the closest major airport, approximately a 48-minute drive away. While transport options exist, some guests recommend private transfers due to the rural location. An impromptu lunch in this fabulous country house hotel, with their wonderful new lunch menu. An incredible array of fabulous sandwiches, inspired by Stockholm menus. Such a creative chef, with inspirational sandwiches. Dishes such as beetroot with Yorkshire blue cheese and toasted sunflower seeds, on beer yeast bread, and chicken with apple, curry mayonnaise, bacon and fried parsley. Incredible service throughout from the entire team, with special mention to Eva for such attentiveness and charm. We have booked to return for an overnight with the new chef’s tasting menu off the back of our lunch. So we throughly recommend a visit to have their relaxed dining experience in such a beautiful atmosphere.

We have spent the last five years at the castle for their new years celebration. The staff is amazing at making us feel like royalty. The owners Bill and Ann Cross are great hosts and always available during meals and events. The bed linens are the best! We are world travelers and this is our favorite place!

My family and I absolutely loved it here! We wish we could have stayed longer. The rooms were phenomenal. We only had the delicious breakfast (we'll be dreaming about that whisky porridge forever). The lounge was very cozy to have a drink at the end of our day. The outside was stunning, too. We appreciated the walk after breakfast to take on the countryside air. Thank you Cringletie!

Do not pass up the opportunity to stay here! It’s isolated, quiet, and peaceful. The owner of the estate came up to us at dinner to introduce himself and chat us up. From the second we checked in to the second we checked out, we were taken care of. And do not skip the restaurant! It’s award winning for a reason!!! The only thing I’d recommend is taking a private car or taxi service. We took the x62 bus, which just lets you off basically on the side of the road and then you walk up the long driveway which is pretty hilly.

We stayed here for a week. It’s a beautiful, peaceful location just 10 minutes from Peebles. The service from the staff was excellent. We had most meals at the hotel, which were elaborate, varied and delicious. I would certainly stay again if we return to the Scottish borders.

+ wonderful architecture and grounds + warm welcome and excellent staff + room small but well designed with delightful features, including welcome drams of whisky and interesting books + friendly, professional and warm welcome from the owner over dinner + lovely views with Highland cows in the adjacent field - stayed here mostly on account of the restaurant offering. we learned that the head chef had left two weeks prior, which unfortunately really showed: undercooked risotto, nuked fish, also surprisingly slow service with only four tables to serve. we dine out often across the UK and Europe and are not too demanding but this was very poor value for money on the food front. We were quite relaxed and didn't mind so much given how friendly the staff were and the general surroundings, but the real let down was breakfast - our soft boiled eggs were boiled beyond hard, our coffee left us wishing we had used the lovely nespresso machines in the rooms; but the lasting memory was being served supermarket mass produced style sliced bread as toast, which we both realised far too late had mould around the edges and the poor waitress seemed fairly mortified to see when she asked if something was wrong with our breakfast. Fairly dismal food given the prices charged and unfortunately let down an otherwise lovely experience.

Beautiful setting and a genuinely relaxing stay. The building and grounds are stunning, and our room was cosy and very comfortable. Staff were kind and welcoming. Everyone was especially kind and thoughtful with our young daughter, who was treated to a proper children’s menu each night. The food was excellent: different each evening, full of flavour, and elegantly presented without feeling stuffy. It felt like relaxed luxury - polished, but not pretentious. Our room was very comfortable with a beautiful view of the countryside. We are already talking about planning a return visit.

This hotel stay has been exceptional. There is an ambiance of tranquility which would be worth millions if it could be bottled. The staff were superb and the food was to die for, all of which added to creating that “wow” feeling. I would definitely recommend the tasting menu.
